Chin Aesthetics and Facial Implants
On the human face, the chin is a basic structure for determining the character and aesthetic appearance. The cheekbones are another basic structure that is indispensable for a young and attractive face. Therefore, jaw and cheekbone aesthetics and their harmony among themselves are very important to ensure the golden proportions of the face. Apart from their importance in the aesthetic appearance of the face, the proper alignment of the teeth on these structures is important for chewing functions and jaw movements.
Chin Aesthetic Methods
In a person with a normal tooth closure, when viewed from the profile, the deficiency or excess at the tip of the jaw is a situation that needs to be corrected. If the deficiency is not very large, this deficiency can be completed with filling materials. The most commonly used fillings for this purpose contain Hyarulonic acid or Calcium Hydroxy Apatite crystals. Minimally invasive methods that do not require surgical procedure are easy to apply and advantageous in terms of patient comfort.
However, their permanence is limited. These fillers are also used to emphasize the cheekbones. Another important method in the elimination of mild to moderate jaw tip and cheekbones deficiencies is stem cell-rich fat transplantation obtained from the person himself/herself. This method is performed under local anesthesia. The fat tissue in the abdomen, waist or hip area of the person is taken by means of special injectors. It is subjected to some procedures and then injected into the missing area to be completed. These procedures are completed between 30-45 minutes.
After chin aesthetics, bandaging is done with skin-colored bands. Within 7-10 days, these transferred fats become a part of these areas where they are injected. After the procedure, redness and bruising may develop for a few days. While the redness disappears within 1-2 days, the bruises usually disappear spontaneously within 7-10 days without any treatment.
In advanced jaw tip and cheekbone deficiencies, if there is no problem in dental sessions, the method used is to eliminate the deficiencies with prosthesis. For this purpose, Medpor (Polypropylene) and silicone implants are used as prostheses. As a result of the pre-procedure evaluation, the size of the prosthesis is decided according to the amount of deficiency. Usually under general anesthesia, a pocket is created by entering through a 3-4cm incision made inside the mouth. An implant is placed in this pocket. This implant is sometimes attached to the bone with screws. Then the incisions are sutured and the surgery is finalized.
Skin-colored bands are used on the face to hold the prosthesis in place for 3-4 days. There may be redness on the face for 1-2 days. Swelling and bruises may be observed for about 7-10 days. These can usually pass without any treatment. The person can return to social life after 3-4 days. Implants may cause reactions in some people. Sometimes they may become infected and these conditions may require treatment. Very rarely, the implants may need to be removed for this reason.
In cases of severe jaw tip and cheekbone deficiencies or excesses, orthoghnatic surgery is the treatment of choice if the person also has malocclusion of the teeth. A cephalometric x-ray is taken before the procedure. On the x-ray, the position of the upper and lower jaws is calculated according to the skull base bones. Then, if necessary, orthodontic treatment is performed first. Subsequently, the deformity of the face is corrected by changing the positions of the lower and/or upper jaw with jaw surgery methods.
