EYELID AESTHETICS
Our eyes are the mirror of our heart; they are the organs that we use to express all our emotions, thoughts and feelings, and that provide our connection and communication with our environment. However, it does not provide this communication and connection alone, but in integrity with the other structures around it. The most important of these structures are our eyelids. The upper and lower eyelids are very different from each other in terms of structure. The upper eyelid is more mobile, while the lower eyelid is more fixed. As a function, our eyelids protect our eyes against all kinds of external factors, and when they are at rest, they help to repair the damage that has occurred during the day. The secretions produced in the eyelash area ensure that the eyes are fully closed and protected from germs during sleep.
However, these important structures, which protect our eyes from all kinds of enemies by maintaining these important tasks throughout our youth, undergo some shape changes with the passing time. The most important signs of aging on our face start around the eyes, more specifically on the eyelids. The skin of the upper lid becomes loose, loose and begins to sag. Bagging occurs under the lower lid. Here, the task falls to us, the plastic surgeons, and we aim to restore the youthful appearance of these loyal organs.
Upper Eyelid Aesthetics (Upper Blepharoplasty)
Our upper eyelid continues in layers as skin, orbicular muscle, septum (a kind of membrane), fat pads, levator muscle and conjunctiva (the inner red part of the eye). The procedures performed in upper eyelid aesthetics may include the ones I will mention now;
-Removal of excess skin
-Strengthening of muscle tissue
-Reducing the size of the excess oil bags and replacing the oil bags when necessary
-Repair of the relaxed levator muscle (for the treatment of droopy eyelids -pitosis)
As a result of these procedures, excess skin sagging in front of the eyes is removed and the field of vision is increased. By eliminating droopy eyelids, the gaze is revitalized and the fat distribution in the fat bags is regulated, providing a more natural, youthful and beautiful expression. Upper eyelid aesthetics are often performed simultaneously with eyebrow procedures.
Lower Eyelid Aesthetics (Lower Blepharoplasty)
On the lower lids, the problem is mostly under-eye bagging. The reason for the formation of these bags is again due to the under-eye fat tissues pushing the skin and connective tissues over time and herniating outwards. As a result, deformities such as loose and excess skin, loose eyelash line, bags and prominence of the under-eye bone, which we call the tear trough, occur. Dr. Hüseyin Güner has a technique he developed in 2008 for these deformities and defined as "Percutaneous Lower Blepharoplasty". He has presented this technique in many domestic and international congresses and meetings, and even saw that his colleagues applied this technique in subsequent congresses and achieved successful results. In this technique, under local anesthesia, under-eye fat pockets are accessed through a very small hole, these fats are transposed (placed where there is volume) and then excess skin is removed, cantal repair and carbon dioxide laser application are performed. Although we have given some technical details in this part, what we are saying in short is to repair the sagging and loosening tissues and to restore the lower lid to its robust, tense and vibrant state as in youth. The results are extremely satisfying and this technique has taken its place in the world literature.
